Rob Zombie’s “Superbeast” Should be the Bruins’ New Goal Song

Rob Zombie’s “Superbeast” should be the Bruins’ new goal song. Here’s why:

Don’t get me wrong- Zombie Nation’s “Kernkraft 400” is a fine goal song and a classic. Undeniably sing-along-able, it’s associated with Bruins success to a Pavlovian extent (they were playing it at B’s home games back in 2011).

But is it potentially time to change things up a bit? A new goal song could demonstrate the organization’s intention to not rest on the laurels of achievements past. Recent contract negotiations with Bruins superstar David Pastrnak have raised questions about the longevity of the team’s playoff hopes. If the Bruins are serious about a new era of continued success, a new goal song could signal not only an in-game tally, but a renewed interest in bringing Lord Stanley’s cup back to TD Garden.

Enter Rob Zombie. Heard of him? You have. His floor-stomping-good hit “Feel So Numb” off of his 2001 sophomore release “The Sinister Urge” plays at every Boston Bruins home game. For those not aware, Rob hails from Haverhill, a half hour drive from Legends Way and near the New Hampshire border. His nu-metal/shock rock offerings played on WAAF starting when his first solo album debuted in 1998- the same record that features “Superbeast” as its opening track.

By now, hopefully you’ve familiarized or introduced yourself to Superbeast via stream, but if not, it’s the song with the chorus that goes:

“HELL YEAH!

(I’m the one that you wanted)

HELL YEAH!

(I’m the Superbeast)”

You want to keep the singalong element that Kernkraft 400 features, of course. But as easy as the current goal song is to vocalize along to, who doesn’t love fist pumping with one hand while you hold your beer in the other and screaming “HELL YEAH!”? I for one would be jealous as fuck if another team used a song that invited the crowd to shout this refrain every time their team buried one.

Sonically, “Superbeast” would work for the same reasons that “Feel So Numb” does. It’s thunderous in the low end, has a chug-heavy guitar riff, and features an unfairly danceable 4/4 bass/snare drumbeat. Heads will be banging, fists will be pumping, and visiting teams will be seething knowing that 19,580 Bostonians are having such a great time as a result of their defensive mishap.

With its stupid easy audience participation signaling, made for an arena head banging sound, and inherently New England homegrown heritage, the powers that be should at the very least consider taking Superbeast for a spin as the new goal song while the Bruins are dismembering the Red Wings just in time for Halloween weekend on Thursday October 27th- just to see how it feels.
